>>> Virtual Homage - participatory design for public spaces
Keywords: participatory design, public art

New public monuments are often criticized by the non-professional audience. People feel cheated when remarkable characters are honoured with minimalistic blocks of stone. In Virtual Homage, I want to provide a participatory platform for people to express what in their opinion is worth a monument, and what kind of a monument.

The work combines virtual and physical urban sites in Brussels and Helsinki. Through the Internet, citizens and netizens will be able to propose and sketch monuments, the best of which will be prototyped in 3D and placed on panoramas depicting the proposed site. The Virtual Homage site also includes discussion and feedback properties, whose aim is to involve people and decision-makers in a dialogue about the public space.
