13.17-13.27 ‘Add+PF+?’ Residency project in ‘Pedagogical Factory’, Chicago
CONTEXT:
Travel Stories
DESCRIPTION:
This is a site-specific, community-specific project engaging with the site and community of ‘Pedagogical Factory’ exhibition and events.. In the process, I proposed to make addition slot(s) in the schedule each week, as part of the publically-announced Pedagogical Factory (PF) summer schedule. Hence, ‘Add+PF+?’..
This means I have been seeking artists/guides/teachers/presenters/performers who feel like they have something to share, teach, show and tell others, not yet covered in the PF programme of events. I asked “Do you have a hobby, craft, skill, profession, inspiring person, history that you think others can learn from? Do you recommend someone who has something to teach but hasn’t had the chance?”.
I got quite a few responses, from the very different margins of cultural, specialist and non-professional realms. Think of my activity as ’parasite organising’, positive attention and Mutual Aid!” And think about in what ways, for whom, as the equation is processed..

13.41-13.49 The Secret Life of Objects (Esa ja Esineet)
CONTEXT:
A “small is beautifull” collaboration done with the Design Museum in Helsinki
DESCRIPTION:
“The Secret Life of Objects” project started with the Museum’s initiative to develop services for the permanent exhibition of Finnish modern design by organizing a series of workshops with children focused on certain design objects. The project has grown into an exploration of narratives that connect people with design objects. The stories that children can fantasize, or personal experiences that are connected to a specific object that the visitors want to share. The design historical and documentive material by museum experts is exhibited in parallel to these stories. In the first stage the result of the children workshops are displayed and linked to an interactive map. Visitors can comment on these results, on the objects from the exhibition and other material collected.
We’ll explain better what has been done and show a video of one of the workshops.

14.37-14.42 The Guild of Bonsai Hackers
CONTEXT:
Design Research Seminar
DESCRIPTION:
The Guild of Bonsai Hackers proposes a counsel for full-body environmental awareness, as a NGO ‘embassy’, assisting in de-association (making selective cuts) to aspects of one’s burgeoning data-entourage.
During contemporary times of increased survaillence in both material and electronic public space, the Hacker’s Guild facillitates awareness and ‘data-pruning’ of undesirable accumulations of self-and-Other-generated data branches.
Alternative growth and re-association with human, non-human and other environmental subjects is encouraged.
