Leading international peer-to-peer theorist, Michel Bauwens of The Foundation for P2P Alternatives, visited our Media Lab at the beginning of April.
A short and informal seminar was organised by doctoral students Andrew Paterson and Andrea Botero for their study peers, as an opportunity to present the wealth of P2P-based projects and research in the lab. The aim of the event on April 2nd, was to share relevant Finland-based P2P research projects. Sanna Marttila, Juhana Kokkonen, Juha Kronqvist and Pirkka Åman all presented shortly their research abstracts or asked specific questions to Bauwens, with Professor Lily Diaz, and 6 other Media Lab doctoral students also present. The event and gathering brought together for the first time in the Lab those specifically interested in Peer-to-peer issues, from a broad range of perspectives. It was agreed that the next step to maintain the cohesiveness of the group and recognition of the research cluster, the group will present themselves on The Foundation for P2P Alternative’s international research wiki-page.
Michel Bauwens was in Helsinki thanks to peer-funding raised by 5 individuals, and was a keynote speaker in the Alternative Economy Cultures seminar initated and organised by Media Lab doctoral student Andrew Paterson (http://agryfp.info), as part of Pixelache Festival 2009.
