The virtual reconstruction of the Finnish World Fair Pavilion of 1900 will be exhibited at the Design Museum in Helsinki during the summer until October of 2010. The combination of an immersive display, 3D glasses and virtual soundscape enable the visitors to interactively view the pavilion and the works of art that were exhibited there.
The original pavilion was a significant national push that brought together the efforts of the most recognized Finnish artists and designers of the time, with the intention of portraying Finland as an independent, modern and European nation. Eliel Saarinen was the main architect of the building. Albert Edelfelt, Axel Gallén and Pekka Halonen, to name a few, were among the artists that contributed to the project.
This is the third time the installation is publicly exhibited in a museum. The first time was in 2008 as part of the Fennofolk exhibition of the Design Museum, and the second time in 2010 at Instituto Tomie Ohtake, Sao Paulo, as part of their Estrelas do design finlandês event.
