Research topics
Transfer of culture heritage materials into the virtual domain. Of particular interest has been the topic of the relationship between innovation and practice.
Activity theory. The focus of the work has been on the use of Activity Theory in collaborative design.
Virtual networked environments. The group has worked on the design and production of 3D virtual networked environments. Additionally the group has organized educational projects in this area.
Knowledge structures and classifications systems. The group has worked in the area of classification systems and controlled vocabularies in culture heritage applications.
Applications of 3D representation. 3D representation was a topic of research in the Illuminating History Project. Two media artifacts that made use of 3D were created. These were a 3D World that is an interpretive representation of the landscape of the area of Raisio/Ihala around the years of 1725's. In addition we produced an authoring tool that allows the user to curate her own exhibitions and display them in a 3D gallery structure from the materials in the archive.
