CHANGING BABIES

The text of the postcard says : young, fresh and still available... Knowing this, what is your thought association?

In Switzerland in 1997, a reader sent this postcard to a magazine, angered by the text. Many Europeans have recently been made acutely aware of pedophily problems.

But in Brazil in 1996, the same group of babies, inverted and with bathing suit marks, advertised for a suntan lotion.

Now check out the composition.

The black baby is set apart from the tighter group. Was this (unconscious) racism from the photographer ? The black baby is also smaller -like the one in the middle with legs closed.

In 1998 someone who happened to know the photographer told me that in closed circles, she was criticised for her conservative views on society, but that the author of this image bank material did not see her picture in this light.
