THE COURSE IS OVER!

During the feedback session pluses and the drawbacks were discussed. Generally the lectures were found very interesting and useful. But there were some problems with the technology as well as materials for students were not delivered on time before each session and sometimes it was hard to understand the structure and the purpose of the lecture since it was not clearly stressed. The video file from the feedback session by Alexey Yakovlev will be available soon.

Dear speakers - thank you very much for very interesting insights into the topics of the course.
Special thanks goes to Prof. Tapio Varis for the sincere interest in making the course possible and for all the contribution!

Dear students - thank you for submitting the final essays (altogether 16 were submitted). Unfortunately there are no e-mails indicated on any of the essays, so the feedback will be sent from Prof. Varis to me and then distributed to you. That might take some time.
You are welcome to take a look and comment on each other's works at the E-Research and Development web page.

Description

A demand of a new renaissance education has emerged in Europe and the United States . It would combine science and technology with the art, humanities and religion. In addition to this, new media and digital literacies are needed. Media education should be aimed at children, parents and teachers and should be a life-long process, which requires a co-ordinated approach also involving non-governmental organisations and media professionals.

Digital literacy can be seen as the ability to understand and use of information in multiple formats from a wide range of sources when it is presented via computers. Media literacy is a multidimensional continuum including cognitive, emotional, aesthetic and moral dimensions.

Each session of the seminar will raise the relevant questions and initiate the discussion about the ongoing processes that we all are to face. The students' and participants' views on the problem is crucial - feel free to speak during the session as well as reflect your critical views at the learning diaries. Include also your own experience of the media use. New ideas are very welcome!
