Finnish Design Today
The most important information about and services offered by Finnish Design are now available on the Internet. The network services are jointly produced by Design Forum Finland, the Finnish Association of Designers ORNAMO, the University of Industrial Arts and the Design Museum Finland.

Finnish Design Today is the first extensive European network service in which the approach is through objects and designers. As the first step in an extensive network project for design it will create a versatile network on the Internet which will benefit many. The languages on the Internet pages are Finnish and English.

Finnish Design Today makes design known to a wider audience in a new way. The richly illustrated pages present everything from the classics in design to the creations of young designers; they list exhibitions and events; they tell about design competitions and awards, the symbiosis between design and innovation, education and research, organizational activities and design services etc. The pages will be regularly up-dated with the latest design news. Thanks to the latest technology, the classic objects can be moved and viewed from different aspects. This means new ways of benefiting from the interactive possibilities offered by the Internet.

Finnish Design Today offers tourists the best shopping hints on Helsinki stores which sell design products. On the shopping street spread page you can find the addresses of everything from small galleries to large department stores. From the network stores of the producers of the Internet pages you can use network money, for example, to buy objects directly, acquaint yourself with a handicrafts gallery or stop off at a museum shop.

Anu Lehtonen is responsible for the Internet project of Finnish Design Today and Raino Ranta of the Media Laboratory production group at the University of Industrial Arts is responsible for the visual layout. The QTVR objects have been produced by photography student Antti Huittinen. The project is sponsored by the Ministry of Education project "Finland an information society".
