"European Concept Development for Interactive and Virtual Multimedia"

The Media Lab UIAH announces a forthcoming course for European broadcast media professionals in which the Lab is heavily involved. The course has been planned and coordinated by the Hilversum Media Academy, Holland in collaboration with the Media Lab UIAH and the BBC, London. The project is supported by the EU's Media2 programme.

The aim of the course is to combine interactive content development, conventional television making and new technology at a European level.

With this course the Media Academie in the partnership with the BBC and the Media Lab UIAH in Finland will give experienced program makers the oppurtinity of changing their linear way of working into a non-linear way by using all the new techniques including the Internet, Streaming Media and Virtual Reality. We aim to have teams from European Broadcasting organisations and audiovisual production companies.

The course consists of six modules, 32 days in total. Learning at a distance will play a major role during the course as participants communicate through the Internet.

Nine teams, consisting of four members per team will be able to participate in the project. Broadcasting organisations and audiovisual production companies within Europe can each provide a program team. Each of them will include a director/producer, a writer, a graphic designer and an interaction designer/programmer, all preferably with practical experience. Each program team will be assigned a (national or international) mentor, experienced in the field of multimedia development.

Please respond as soon as you can by phone or mail because the project will start in January 1999.
