Areal Milestones

Milestone :Helsinki was established in Arabianranta by King Gustav Wasa in year 1550
Milestone :First powerplant and water refinery was built in Arabianranta
Milestone :Arabia factories started to make porcelain products in year 1874, and the industrialization of Helsinki begun
Milestone :University of Art and Design Helsinki was removed to Arabianranta in the beginning of 1970´s
Milestone :City of Helsinki, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Arabianranta private landowners and University of Art and Design Helsinki made an agreement to develop Arabianranta as a “leading hot-spot of desing in the Baltic Sea Area” in year 1995
Milestone :Developing company Art and Design City Helsinki Ltd. was established in year 1997 by the City of Helsinki, State, University of Art and Desing Helsinki, Pop&Jazz Conservatory and Hackmann Ltd.
Milestone :2002 started services in “Helsinki Virtual Village”, which is a virtual Arabianranta. It ment services for residents, students and companies in Arabianranta area.One aim for the project is to increase the sense of community in the area.
Milestone :Arabia Services Ltd. was established in year 2002 and it´s task was to built all the common facilities, like common ground, parking places, areal broadbandet and club facilities.

Milestone :Building site for 280.000sq meters of flats and 190.000 sq meters of new university-, office- and commercial space begun in year 2000. Alreaday there were 120.000 sq meters converted factory buildings.
Milestone :In year 2005 there was six schools (University of Art and Design, Stadia-University of Applied Sciences for Culture and Media, Arcada-University of Applied Sciences for swedish speaking people in the fields of Technology, Welfare, Media, Two secondary level schools, Practikum and Audiovisual school and Pop&Jazz Conservatory, all together 6000 students.
Milestone :In year 2005 there was something like 3000 new residents living in Arabianranta.
Milestone :Year 2005 there was 300 companies situated in Arabianranta, 2/3 of them sme´s. Something like 3500 workers.
Milestone :At the moment we have over 50 pieces of art in public places, houses, parks and roads.
Milestone :During the Finnsh Precidency of EU Arabianranta was invated to establish a Network of Living Labs in EU.

Milestone :In year 2010 Arabianranta is going to be a place for 8000 new residents, 6000 students and 5000 workers.
Milestone :Year 2010 Arabianranta is going to be a leading hot-spot of Design in Northern Europe.
Milestone :Year 2010 we are going to selebrate 18 years old “Helsinki Virtual Village” services.
Milestone :In year 2010 we are going to have a lot of joint projects with schools, residents and companies in Arabianranta area. Arabianranta is then a true “Helsinki Living Lab”.
Milestone :When Arabianranta is ready, we are going to have 200 pieces of art alltogether.
Milestone :Best parts of Arabianranta project are to be copied in other part of Helsinki and Europe.
