Stereo images
The first patented stereo viewing device was a reflecting stereoscope by
Sir Charles Wheatstone in 1838. There had been some stereo images before, for
example by Jacopo Chimenti, the painter in the sixteenth century. In 1844
a technique to take stereo photos was introduced in Germany, which really
started the stereo image craze. Later we can find stereo still images in
for example View-master.
