Although it can be argued that 3dfx's Voodoo chipset in 1996 was nothing really new,
nobody can really deny its impact on consumer market 3D. SGI (Silicon graphics
at that time) and other companies had manufactured 3D hardware way before that
but they were used only by professionals and cost like hell. What Voodoo did
it offered the masses an affordable and fast enough option for accelerated
realtime 3D graphics thus changing the consumer market rapidly.
