The Finnish urban culture has experienced a strong arrival of cafe's and a culture of meeting up in public space ('cafe'istuminen'). Accordingly, cultural happenings have found their way into those bars and cafe's. Homemade wishes to reintroduce homes as popular meeting points where one can have a relaxed cup of coffee with one's friends. Already the Finnish term for having guests over, 'vieraita' (strangers), implies stiffness. Homemade invites its visitors to take a tour around three different homes. As the homes are opened up as relaxed meeting spots, the visitor is simultaneously seduced to explore different views from different homes upon his or her city. At the same time, each home will host a small home(made) gallery, call it art if you like. The work on display varies from videos to installations where the whole space and beverages on offer - and even the hosts! - are styled and adjusted to serve the home in question. The general theme of the snacks and drinks on offer will be the homely product of milk. Thus, and most importantly, Homemade offers a series of homemade happenings. A Saturday afternoon that should surely beat a stressed day of Xmas shopping... The first Homemade was organized on Saturday December 16th 2000. Homemade 2 will take place late this Summer. |
