Second goal is to gather all cumulaitve knowledge and study what has done in MediaLab. What does these principles mean when designing and planning virtual museums? Also these methods should be self evident principles when designing new media solutions for public use.

Maps of Helsinki
The University of Art and Design Helsinki is situated in the area called Arabia, about 6 kms from the center of Helsinki, in the same building as the famous porcelain factory Arabia.
The buses 71, 71V, 73B, 735K and 68 departing from the Railway Station, the bus 74 departing from the Hakaniemi market square and the bus 77S stopping at the Hakaniemi market square all stop near our University. In the bus, push the signal button when you see the Arabia factory on the right side of the road. Tram number 6 has it’s terminal close to the University and travels via the Railway Station.
The taxi fare from the centre of the city to the UIAH is nowadays approximately 12 euros.
The entrance to the Media Lab is in the D-stair until further notice.

How to find the location of the MUMIN PhD course in Tampere
Address: Åkerlundinkatu 1, Tampere, Finland
First, the hotel is located 1,2 kilometers from the railway station – a bit more if you use the main streets. Walking is recommended. If you have too much stuff, take a taxi (and try to share it with others). There’s a rough map at http://www.hotelli-kauppi.fi/ (click the “i” button). The red dot is the hotel, the leftmost black rectangle is the railway station, and the other black rectangle is the Tampere hall. The course will take place in the building that is right next to the Tampere hall, see the map at http://www2.juvenes.fi/lue_uutinen.phtml?kieli=&id=297 (the building is marked with “D” on the map). For more information (in English) on the conference venue, see http://www2.juvenes.fi/lue_uutinen.phtml?id=528&kieli=english. Again, to get from the hotel to the conference venue, walking is recommended.
Accommodation
Rooms have been reserved at the following hotels:
Helsinki: Hotel Helka, http://www.helka.fi/
Tampere: Hotel Kauppi, http://www.hotelli-kauppi.fi/
In order to confirm the rooms, we would like all the participants to send an email with arrival and departure times to Stina Boedeker (sb@cs.uta.fi) and Irma Lepistö (irma.lepisto@uiah.fi) by October 18th. For students, double rooms have been reserved in Tampere. Please, let us know if that’s acceptable and if you have preferences concerning who to share the room with. The rooms will be paid for by the organisers but participants will have to pay for phone calls, drinks and the like.
Travelling expenses
Participants are expected to sort out their transportation themselves, including transportation from Helsinki to Tampere. The easiest way for this leg is the train, see http://www.vr.fi/ for the pages of the Finnish Railways. There are trains roughly once an hour, and the ride takes about two hours. Please, note that the MUMIN network will only refund economy class tickets, so don’t wait too long to book your flight ticket! Also, for the refund you have to file original ticket stubs, so remember to save them.
Meals and other expenses
Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the organisers.
Social events
The social programme features a welcoming reception and a dinner in connection with a typical Finnish sauna. These are also offered by the network.

Content description:
The Mummi-workshops address the complexity of interaction between human
beings and designed systems or objects. The first workshop focuses
especially on artefacts and museums, and it will feature a visiting expert
as an invited speaker Slavko Milecik (http://www.uarts.edu/faculty/smilekic/)

The MUMIN Workshop and PhD course bring together researchers and
graduate students from Nordic research institutions who work in the area
of human-computer interaction, and in particular multimodal interfaces,
to share their research results and knowledge with each other. The
workshop is especially targeted to the members of the MUMIN network and
it will provide them with an opportunity to present their latest
research results and to discuss the role and activities of the network.
The course is planned to Nordic graduate students, and it will address
the issue of multimodal interfaces from a theoretical as well as a
practical point of view, and give the participants the opportunity to
get hands-on experience in the use of a number of different modalities
and their combinations.
