“At first, it was difficult to see behind the colour or other effective senses of recycled material. For example, I picked up materials because of colours. Later, I realized that there are many other properties like softness, thicknesses, washed-out feel, ease of handling, and interesting patterns or surfaces of clothes.

Second-hand fabrics or waste pieces of fabrics have been used in rag rugs, hole fix, or patchwork in the Finnish tradition. In the Estonian folklore, I can see more decoration ways to use fabric slices like pompom decorations, wristband decorations, details of lining…Suddenly, I saw my own culture in deeper detail as through detail goggles. I noticed that there were many rag decorations in Finnish textiles, too, like rag bunch decorations in children’s cap and patch details in strengthening of socks.”
