Loading of the kiln requires group work and division of labour. Everybody needs to know exactly what to do and in which order. The loading will have to be done fast, so that the flames will not have time to burst out of the pit. That would result in an uncontrollable rise of temperature and breaking of the vessels. However, the kiln should not be loaded too full or covered too tight - otherwise the fire will choke.
