Collaboration with Signe Pucena: | ||
This project commenced during the Locative Media Workshop (16th - 26th July 2003) held at the K@2 Cultural Centre in Karosta, near Liepaja, -Lativa. The aim was to map and link locative media (image and sound) from a person-centred position of narrative and experience. The activity began at an architectural centrepoint of Karosta - the Russian Orthodox Cathedral - and likewise a human centrepoint - the life story of local Baba Dusja, a 77 year old woman who regularly attends Orthodox Mass. The process gathered fragments, 'stitching' together sound samples of bells and songs, daily military marches, and walking paths between abandoned apartment blocks. It is currently documented in the above components [orientation | compass | etc.] as poetic documental text, but it was conceived to utilise the locative:packet structure, allowing for spatio-temporal configuration and experience. It was presented as spoken-word and mixed media in a linear fashion [simple .html documentation] at the end of the workshop, to a local audience. All images (except 01-07) and .3gp movie-clip were taken with a Nokia 3650 camera-phone; Sound samples were recorded on mini-disc with an omni-directional microphone; GPS readings and trace images captured using the WAAG's realtime GPS device.
