This is a so-called Otto-Adelheid penny, on which the names ODDO and ATHEAHLHT refer to Otto III and his grand-mother Adelheid, the guardian of the future emperor. These coins were struck in northern Germany, probably in Goslar, from 983 or 991 onwards during several decades. In Scandinavian finds they are the most common German coins; in Finland, more than 600 are known.
