PLANK FLOOR (TYA 281: 26)

Type: Constructions (units 2087 and 2089 in close-up).

Site: Raisio, Ihala, Mulli abode.

Period: Viking Age / Crusade Age / Early Middle Ages.

Dating: 980-1220 A.D.

Photographer: Taina Pietikäinen.

Direction of photography: From east.

Plank floor and wall constructions of the log house in the western border of the excavation area. In the 1996 excavations some east-west and nort-south directed wooden lines were discovered in the western side of the area which were joined together and formed a right angle and possibly a timberwork. Inside of the wooden lines, i.e., the walls of the building, nine adjacent north-south directed wooden remains formed a floor. This floor layer has been dated back to ca. 1010 A.D. (cal AD or a calibrated dating).

In this picture, also a stone construction (unit 2087) can be seen, which the excavators supposed to be a post-hole, but according to the archaeologist Juha-Matti Vuorinen is a hearth.
