What do we have to take into account when designing, and how are we accountable? 'Cultural usability' is a working hypothesis for a design practice that reaches beyond the functional interests of contemporary usability research and interface development by situating design in its wider socio-cultural contexts.

Cultural Usability is a preliminary research project carried out at the Media Lab, University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH. The research looks for critical approaches to new media design by creating exchanges between cultural studies, sociology of technology, design research and technology development.
